A Poem for Sarah & Michael
Tonight we friends have gathered,
From corners far and wide.
For the wedding of Sarah and Michael,
And perhaps some skiing on the side.
Tomorrow they will wed
And together start a life,
My little sister Sarah
Will soon be Michael’s wife.
They seem a perfect match,
As anyone can see.
The similarities are so very striking,
One might think it destiny.
They both excelled at sports
Whether stick, ball or snow.
In pursuits extreme and daring,
It seemed nowhere they wouldn’t go.
And let’s not forget their smarts,
Between them five degrees.
And on all those many report cards,
Never once was there a “C”.
Both went to halls of Ivy,
One to Princeton, one to Yale.
Sadly, neither one to Dartmouth,
Beside which those others pale.
Now Sarah saves our portfolios
While, Michael saves our lives.
Each blessed with talents extraordinary,
You can see it in their eyes.
With qualities so endearing,
Personalities so aligned,
In hindsight, it seems quite amazing
Their paths only recently intertwined.
But at last they were introduced,
By friends who knew each to be a catch.
Our thanks to Ron and Dagney
Who guessed they’d be a match.
For a coffee they did meet,
It was Michael who was late.
But the grace with which he recovered
Made Sarah think “this guy seems great!”
Their courtship began in earnest,
Great trips, great friends, great food.
The fit became apparent
An engagement soon ensued.
Now tomorrow you’ll be married
Best friends for all your days
And perhaps you’ll soon have children,
Or so each grandparent prays.
I’m so very proud of you dear Sarah,
My first and oldest friend.
I could sing your praise for hours,
But I must now bring this poem to an end.
You’re such a lovely couple,
Each made better by the other.
Welcome Michael, to our family
I greet you as a brother.
I wish you all life’s happiness.
That together you find great joy.
And at the risk of sounding presumptuous,
I hope that first baby will be a boy.
From corners far and wide.
